Yao Ming, 7'6", Gets Stuffed By Nate Robinson, 5'9"
You're probably thinking what I was thinking before I saw this video: Robinson stuffs a scoop shot, or gets Yao from behind on a fadeaway. Not so much. We're talking face-up jumper sent back from whence it came.
And you better believe the stock in Whatever Shoes Nate Wears is going to skyrocket almost as high as he did, because this guy soared.
In a feat almost as amazing as Spud Webb's dunk contest victory, Nate Robinson stuffs Yao, big time. But before you think this is some sort of a record, think again. According to Yao Ming as reported by espn.com, Yao says he has been "blocked by a 5-3 guy before..."

Only One Day Until Judgment Day: Michigan vs. Ohio State
"Judgment Day" -- that’s what ESPN and ABC are tagging the most
anticipated regular season college football game of this season, and
possibly all time. The undefeated Michigan Wolverines (ranked #2) take
on the also undefeated #1 Ohio State tomorrow .
Michigan vs.
Ohio State is arguably the greatest rivalry in not just college
football, but in all of sports. Their yearly battle is simply known as
“The Game,” and, if you haven’t learned from the ESPN commercial yet,
to see a Wolverine and a Buckeye share an affable relationship -- let
alone passionately kiss each other -- could make a diehard fan lose his
lunch.
I think it would be less awkward to see Rush Limbaugh and
Michael J. Fox cuddle at a stem cell rally than watch these two teams
butt heads. Well maybe not, but I’m still against “making-out with”
your rival and I think that bonds that exist between a Michigan fan and
an Ohio State fan will, without question, ultimately crumble after one
hostile quarter of “The Game.”
Tomorrow’s big game will be the
first time since 1987 that the two top-ranked teams in the nation have
battled for their conference title. It is unfortunate that this
historical match-up is not the National Championship game, as these two
teams are clearly the most dominant in all of college football. The
winner will earn the Big Ten Conference title along with a trip to the
National Championship game in Arizona on January 8th 2007.

Show me the Yen: Red Sox Pay $51.1 Million to Negotiate with Japanese Pitcher, Daisuke Matsuzaka
What could be worth the price that not even Johnny Damon
was to the managers of Red Sox Nation? Apparently there's something
worth even more, and it's rough translation is called the Demon Sphere
Gyro Ball.
The man who throws it: Daisuke Matsuzaka.
The men who created it: Japanese Scientists.
What it is: I'm not quite sure, but it's supposed to be awesome.
Apparently, the handball was designed by a Japanese computer-scientist, Ryutaro Himeno,
to be the ultimate pitch. Using a "live long and prosper" grip, the
outward pitching motion helps facilitates what the Star Trek
hand-symbol intended. By cutting down stress on the pitcher, Himeno’s
Demon ball helps facilitate more innings pitched.
Some claim
that the fancy finger through is nothing more than a glorified slider,
but others, including the Red Sox and Yankees see more to it. The Red Sox, in particular, have paid $51.1 million (¥6 Billion) just to negotiate with the prized pitcher.
It's
important to keep in mind-- $51 mil gives no guarantee that Matsuzaka
will be wearing a B on his hat come April. The pay out only means that Boston general manager Theo Epstein will have a chance to practice his Japanese for the next month.
That
said, as a Dodger fan who lived next to Fenway during the Red Sox
championship run, I never thought I'd say this. But, the Red Sox have
officially passed the Yankees as the most obnoxious checkbook in the Major Leagues.
Hopefully, the BoSox will prevent a second-straight year with no post-season and have something to show for it.

Bobby Knight Pimp Slaps a Player
When I first saw the pre-commercial break promo for this clip on
SportsCenter, I thought for sure Bobby Knight had full-on whacked some
poor kid.
I'm still wondering if I've seen the right clip
because the only problem I see with Coach Knight's most recent, shall
we say, coaching style, is America's reaction to it. Once again, Bobby
brings out his no-nonsense tactics, and once again, America overreacts.
According
to the YouTube user who uploaded the video, Bobby Knight "pimp slaps"
the player. Kind of a misogynistic term to describe what I would
consider to be a chin tap.
To be quite honest, I think this
whole "slap" is a complete non-event (although apparently ESPN and
every sports radio show in US would disagree with me). When Latrell
Sprewell assaulted his coach, that was a big deal. When one fan
tragically killed another fan at a youth hockey game, that was
newsworthy. Bobby Knight touches a player's chin with his finger
tips? Give me a break.
This is a classic American sports-media
overreaction on a slow newsday in the sports world. Congratulations
once again on making something out of nothing, ESPN.
