SICKO - What Hospital Bills?

After the controversy generated by Fahrenheit 9/11, I assumed that Michael Moore was playing it safe by focusing his next polemic on one of America's most obvious flaws, its ramshackle health care system. But although the topic isn't as politically charged as terrorism, this clip makes it clear that he'll never be afraid of aiming for the gut, and then punching over and over again. Moore's ability to be simultaneously naive and smug has become a little annoying over the years, and a history of suspect fact-checking haunts his current work. But when it comes to illustrating the differences between British and American health care, one can't help but agree that he has a point.

The Fantastic Four: The Rise of the Silver Surfer

Well, it’s happening: movie producers are starting to have to scrape the bottom of the barrel for cool comic book movie content. As a result, we’re starting to see characters that are so embarrassingly a product of their time —- like the Silver Surfer in 1966 —- get more attention than they deserve. Such are the dangers, I suppose, when you refuse to make original content for movies anymore. The Surfer, at least, isn’t as bad as Ghost Rider… when except in the 80s could a character that ridiculous looking ever be thought of as cool? (“We need a flaming skull! And chains, more chains! On a motorcycle! FUCK YEAH!”).

I actually think this movie looks potentially better than the first one. But the first one was complete garbage, so who knows if I’ll even see it.

The Bourne Ultimatum

There was a time, not too long ago, when this post would have been about how Jason Bourne is undoubtedly the new James Bond, but Casino Royale was so badass that I can’t make that claim anymore. I still think, however, that Bourne could take 007 in a fight. (Unless it were a sexy fight... James Bond can make anyone purr like a kitten.)

Incidentally, this clip also features my favorite summer movie line so far: "He’s really good at staying alive, and trying to kill him and failing... just pisses him off." Bravo!

Warning: This trailer should not be viewed by anyone whose faith in humanity doesn't need additional pummelling. In the space of two and a half minutes, this preview of the third Jackie Chan/Chris Tucker team-up manages to be homophobic, racist, sexist, and anti-European -- with plenty of time to spare for martial arts stunts and car chases. Saddest part -- it'll make bajillions at the box office. This is why the world hates us, America. And for good reason.
