Gene Kelly Toons into Family Guy
Stewie and Gene Kelly make the dancing duet culturally relevant again!
This scene with Family Guy's Stewie is taken from "Anchors Aweigh," the only film role for which Kelly was nominated for an Oscar. In the film's trailer you can just barely see Kelly dance with Jerry Mouse (of "Tom and Jerry" fame). If you watch "The Family Guy" clip closely you can see Jerry's reflection in the floor... (YouTube commenters have such sharp eyes! I didn't notice this when it aired on TV, but sure can see it now.)
I dont have any real opinions about what this means or why it is important, I just know that I laughed out loud when I saw this Sunday night, perhaps because I'm a sucker for 1940s musicals. Oh, and anyone who describes himself as a "dancer for the proletariat" (as Kelly once did) is alright with me.
