We remember first hearing the news that Sofia Coppola would direct a Marie Antoinette biopic. "Awesome," we thought. "That will be really pretty and lyrical and dark, a glam rock guillotine." Then we saw the original trailer, released in early '06, and got really, really excited. "Powdered wigs! Fireworks! New Order! Awesome!"
Today, Marie Antoinette opens nationwide, to decidedly mixed reviews (who can forget the "boo heard 'round the world" at Cannes?) but we're still transfixed by the awesomeness of this early trailer. Enjoy.
