Michael Leviton "Summer's The Worst"

So much more than a music video, this beautifully produced story of a 1940s sailor in love with an unattainable beauty is a sharp and sad little tale.

Title/Topic: Michael Leviton “summer is the worst”

Acting/Characterization: The music behind the film is catchy and suiting to the tone of the movie itself. Fake but magical. I could not picture a world where a goofy sailor can get a beautiful mermaid to fall in love with her looking any different.

Cinematography:
Shooting this movie is Like filming a play or a T.V. sitcom, very simple. The camera seems slightly out of focus or blurry the whole time. This is to help provide a nostalgic recollection of memories of previous summers. Very clever. The underwater shot of the sailor in his scuba gear is very creative, like they put wax paper over the lens. And a beautiful scene where the lights and stars in the dark of night blink to the music as our sailor walks by. These few unique shots might be the saving grace of what could be a very plain movie.

Color/Lighting: The colors in this movie are very bright and vibrant. Like a real life cartoon. On sunny days in the movie our lighting is very clear and distinguished however, in the evening it is drastically to dark.

Camera Movement:
Besides two scenes where the camera moves, every other shot is still. Like how a staged play would be filmed.

Sound:
There are no sound effects besides the song itself
Editing:
The water special effects were nice. And the blinking stars added a touch of life to the film

Overall interest on a scale of 1 to 10: 7

COMMENTS: The song was ok, the video was ok, but the choreography between the two helped create a distinct feel that you can’t help but get all warm and fuzzy inside for.
